CN55 to CN100B Coil Nailers: Match Nail Length, Wire, Head, and Magazine

A CN-series model should be selected around a complete nail envelope, not nail length alone. Two tools can both accept a 65 mm nail yet call for different wire diameters, head diameters, magazine capacities, air pressure, or inlet connections. The purchase is controlled only when the tool model, coil-nail drawing, air setup, and driven-joint sample all carry the same revision.

For buyers comparing CN55, CN65B, CN70B, CN80B, CN90, and CN100B, the practical starting point is a row-by-row matrix. Find the models that contain the required nail length, then narrow the choice using wire and head diameter. Pressure, inlet, capacity, weight, and the actual application complete the decision.

Each row is an envelope, not a promise that every combination inside it is automatically available or suitable. A 65 mm nail appears inside several length ranges. That overlap creates a shortlist, not an approval. The nail drawing and physical sample still need to match the selected tool.

Start With the Nail Drawing, Not the Tool Name

Before asking for a model, identify the fastener used in the real joint. Record nail length, wire diameter, head diameter, shank form, point, finish, collation angle, wire position, nails per coil, and overall coil diameter. Include the substrate stack and the required driven condition.

Length often attracts the most attention because it is easy to state. Yet the feed system also has to guide the wire and head through the magazine, nose, and driver path. A nail that fits the length range but sits outside the listed wire or head range is not a qualified pairing.

The collation details deserve their own drawing field. The model table establishes dimensional bands; it does not replace confirmation of coil construction. A buyer moving an approved nail from another tool brand should submit both the retained coil and the original drawing rather than relying on the old model name.

Use Overlapping Lengths to Build a Shortlist

Suppose a project uses a 65 mm coil nail. The listed length bands put CN65B, CN70B, CN80B, CN90, and CN100B into the first screen. The wire and head dimensions may remove several options immediately. The application, magazine capacity, air system, and handling method then separate the remaining models.

This is why “quote your 65 mm nail gun” is incomplete. It asks the supplier to make decisions that belong to the buyer's production team. A better RFQ attaches the nail drawing and asks the supplier to mark every compatible model row, any required coil change, and the proposed trial pairing.

Keep Capacity, Pressure, and Inlet in the Same Review

Magazine capacity affects reload planning, but it should never override dimensional compatibility. CN55 lists 300–400 nails, CN65B lists 300, and the CN70B through CN100B rows list 225–300. Treat these as model specifications for order review. Actual line output depends on the work cycle, coil configuration, operator method, and production arrangement; the capacity row alone cannot establish productivity.

Pressure and inlet change at the upper end of the table. CN55 through CN80B list 85–120 PSI with 1/4 in NPT. CN90 and CN100B list 115–145 PSI with 3/8 in NPT. Record hose length and internal diameter, regulator, couplings, lubricator arrangement where applicable, and pressure at the work position. A compatible nail paired with an undersized or mismatched air path can still produce an inconclusive trial.

Treat Weight as a Handling Input, Not a Productivity Claim

The listed weights rise from 2.75 kg for CN55 to 5.67 kg for CN100B. Those numbers help the buyer plan benches, balancers, suspension, task duration, and sample evaluation. They cannot prove comfort, fatigue level, or output. Those outcomes depend on posture, fastening direction, tool support, repetition, operator, and workpiece presentation.

During the trial, ask the production team to record how the tool is held, whether it is supported, and where the operator reaches. A heavier model may be entirely appropriate in a supported station. A lighter model is not automatically suitable if its nail envelope excludes the required fastener.

Run One Labeled Tool-and-Nail Trial

Build the sample around the proposed commercial pairing. Label the tool model, tool serial or asset ID, nail lot, nail drawing revision, coil identity, air setup, substrate batch, and joint stack. Keep these labels beside the work rather than reconstructing them after the result.

Inspect feed, full seating, head condition, shank path, surface marking, wood splitting, point protrusion, and any debris from collation. Apply the buyer's joint test and acceptance rule. Record every rejection as well as the accepted result. If an adjustment is made, give the new setup its own trial row.

The approved evidence pack should contain the loose nail, one intact coil, a driven joint, photographs, and the final specification. That pack makes later reorders easier to compare and gives receiving staff something more useful than a generic tool name.

Lock the Pairing Into the Quote and Purchase Order

A controlled quotation states the exact CN model and every proposed nail field. It also separates included items from site-side items such as couplings, hose, regulator, suspension, spare wear parts, and trial material. Where the tool and nails are supplied together, ask for one compatibility statement tied to the submitted drawing revision.

The purchase order should repeat the model, nail dimensions, collation, air inlet, working-pressure band, magazine capacity, packing, labeling, spare-part scope, and approved sample reference. If a supplier proposes a different CN model after the order, reopen compatibility and sample approval instead of treating the change as an equivalent substitution.
