


The word “coil” describes the collation format, not the complete fastener identity. Roofing coil nails and general coil nails can differ in head, shank, point, finish, collation and tool compatibility. Choose the family from the joint and exposure first.
Start with the roofing assembly
Identify the roofing material, batten or substrate, overlap, edge distance and expected exposure. The nail must seat without damaging the roofing layer and must provide the required holding area in the supporting material. Length alone does not define suitability.
Check the fastener fields
Compare head diameter, wire or gauge, shank, point, finish, collation angle and coil winding. Roofing applications often place more attention on corrosion exposure and head seating than a dry indoor assembly. The exact finish still belongs to the approved specification; avoid infer it from a photograph.
Match the nailer
Use the actual roofing nailer or intended tool family for the trial. Check magazine clearance, feed, nail angle, driven depth and whether the head seats consistently. A general coil nail that fits a magazine can still be wrong for the roofing joint.
